LAND OHNE VATER: DIE OPFER DES NSU

If you guessed from the title that this show is in German, you are correct! Over eight months I directed a global team of journalists, producers, and sound designers through the production and editorial process of the show, supervising the scripts through their translation from English to German, and managing communications and collaborations with stakeholders from all of our co-production companies: Campside Media, Wondery (EU), & Granny Eats Wolf.

What we created is a six-episode, audio documentary series focused on the aftermath of investigations into the NSU's involvement in a string of tragic murders that targeted immigrants living in Germany in the 1990s and early 2000s. The story is told from the perspective of surviving members of two of the men who were killed, focusing on their persistence to bring the truth of the investigations to light as they were continually gaslit by the law enforcement agencies who were supposed to be keeping them safe and accurately informed.

That's a lot of words to say: this is a story about two women who had to overcome immense obstacles, including a country that was not willing to accept that extremist racism--that it tried for over a century to overcome--was still alive and growing. The release of this show is timed with upcoming elections in Germany, and the growing anti-immigrant sentiments citizens around the world are facing right now, including in my own country.

After navigating production partners across no less than four time zones, I'm so proud that this work is now available for anyone in the world to listen to.
